Body acceptance
I’m in the middle of a personal style crisis. I’m 30. My body has gone through “adjustment” I’m not curvy, I’m big bottomed. Facts. A fact I have been fighting since I was an adolescent. Something I need to stop fighting, start accepting and start enjoying.
I am big bottomed, I am skinny thick, (midi thick really) which means I have Beyonce like ass (none of her bust unfortunately but she has had 3 kids) and that means I need to stop wearing jeans trousers.
Jeans trousers are an easy go to. Put them on, they cover your entire leg. Brilliant! However I rip through these bad boys at a rate of knots because they weren’t built for the West African bottom. So I’m embracing skirts again. And tights. More expensive, but they can’t rip where my jeans trousers rip because there is no seam there. I’m sick of buying trousers every 4 months because my bottom needs more space than the average Brit. And whilst I’d love to start a range of trousers for the fuller bottomed (we exist, its our time!) I am neither inclined nor talented in that area. God has given me many business plans, this is only one of them.
So now I need to start dressing for my shape. Roll in the skirts with cardigans to cover my west African arms. Until I fix that particular problem, I will be covering them with cardigans, which I have found out I love. And short jackets, which I also love.
It will cost me a good few grand, but I’ll have a wardrobe where I’m not trying to fight my body shape anymore. I’ll instead be wearing browns, blues, blacks, classic pieces that are relaxed, I’ll buy tights to keep myself warm in the winter and just get on with it. Looking relaxed and comfortable and fashionable. I can’t deal with skinny jeans any more. If I have to go and buy another set of jeans that will disgrace me or make me self conscious again, I have not loved myself. They don’t even look good on me. That’s the kicker.
I have opted for some expensive brands and some not so. Basically if you want classics that will last you years/decades you need to buy something a bit more upmarket than fast fashion.
Also, I’ve taken a look at hundreds of skirts/dresses/jackets and cardigans and I have concluded that modern fashion is deliberately ugly. Either you are Hoe’d up to the nines or you are wearing some smock swamp creation that does nothing for your figure and looks like sack cloth and ashes. Honey, I’m not repenting my beautiful figure. I have the kind of figure that drives men wild these days. I’m not here displaying all the goods like a shop front, but I’d like some select pieces to be seen and appreciated and inviting the viewer for more (for which the price is a happy marriage) All I want is some chill. Some in between. Which is why I’m drawn to vintage style. Its actually pretty. I like pretty. I’m girly, why shouldn’t I be pretty?
